Stephanie's Story
I understand what it's like to go through the roller coaster of emotions that betrayal trauma can bring. I had no idea that being married to a porn addicted spouse of 13 years would be traumatic. However, many symptoms such as heart palpitations, nightmares, depression, dissociation, panic attacks and a clinical diagnosis of PTSD gave me some insight into this web of chaos.
For many years, I lived off of 'hopium' which is the idea that maybe things will get better if I just pray more, fast more, or get more counseling then it will work out. All the while, my body was telling me to get to safety.
One of the most valuable takeaways on this journey of healing is I could not have done it alone. I had my sister and other close, safe 'others' in my life to confide in and share my heavy emotions. I lived out Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 which says, 'Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow.'
Jamie's Story
For many years, I never imagined my life would include the heartbreak of betrayal, divorce and abuse. After being married for 18 years, I experienced the devastation of two affairs that ultimately ended my marriage. Following five years of healing and seeking the Lord, I remarried, believing that I was being led into a new beginning. Sadly, I later found myself in an emotionally and psychologically abusive marriage, and after much prayer, wise counsel and recognizing the unhealthy patterns, I made the difficult decision to leave.
Although those seasons brought tremendous grief, they also became the places where I experienced God's faithfulness in ways I never thought possible. He met me in my brokenness, carried me through the darkest valleys and gently began restoring what had been shattered. I have learned that betrayal and abuse may be what causes ruin, however, they don't ruin God's people. He fully renews and restores all of those broken places brought on by such devestation.
